Editorial Sections

Read the following descriptions of the subjects in each section to decide which section is the best place for your submission.

Exploration

The Exploration section contains creative writing, which includes fiction, memoir, screenwriting or drama, and a poetry section.

Fiction, Memoir, Screenwriting or Drama
Spellbind our readership with your finely woven creative tales. Submissions may not be expository writing about creativity, but must be creative writing itself. You may submit excerpts from longer works. Max 2,000 words.

Poetry Section
Blend words and art as intimately as possible. The poetry section includes four to six poems by established and novice poets, often workshopped with the poetry editor. Max 300 words.

Join Us and Create Your Own...
There have always been ideas, without folks to implement them. If you want to get involved in running:

  • A serial novel (will encourage the participation of any writer wishing to contribute to the evolution of a story)
  • A creative writing online workshop (with the piece and the critique posted for us all to learn from)

... please e-mail the Facilitating Editor. She'd love to help you get started!

Opinion

The Opinion section contains three types of writing: How-to, Op-Ed and Reviews.

How-to
Share your expertise on topics related to the Writergrrls’ quarterly theme. How-to articles are intended to help readers acquire new skills and/or knowledge. Max 1,000 words.

Op-Ed
Oh, go on … tell us what you *really* think. Share your opinion on topics related to the Writergrrls quarterly theme. Feel free to rant, wax poetic, sing praises, or scratch an itch. All we ask is that you do so within limits – i.e., length must not exceed 500 words.

Reviews
Loose the critic within: send us your reviews of books, products, music, your little sister's poetry. The item to be reviewed should be related to writing and/or to the Writergrrls' quarterly theme. For example, if the theme is creativity and you liked the way your carrot sticks were arranged on the plate at Café Flora, by all means, send us a review. Max 500 words.

Membership

The Membership section contains five regular columns: Writergrrl in the Field, Member Snapshot, Member Spotlight, Shared Experience and the Bulletin Board.

Writergrrl in the Field
Help us all discover what exactly Writergrrls *do* when they're in their work environment. How many mouse-clicks make up the day of a Content Editor, and what is that mouse clicking *on*? How did that Writergrrl get to be such a mouse-clicker? Help the rest of us find out how to act out our own rodent fetishes. Max 800 words.

Member Snapshot
This brief game of "twenty" questions allows us to make the acquaintance of one of our Writergrrl fellows. Use stock questions from the last issue, or come up with some of your own, maybe even theme-related. Max 400 words.

Member Spotlight
Write a feature, usually an interview, on a prominent Writergrrls member. This piece usually tells the Writergrrl's story as it relates to Writergrrls: her professional and personal writing and editing, career path, ambitions, creative activities. It also examines what she gains from being a Writergrrls member. Max 800 words.

Shared Experience
Report on recent Writergrrls events, news-style. This article can include links to supporting or background information, and can be factual or features-style. Max 800 words.

Bulletin Board
Send in a blurb on … yourself! This section summarizes events, announcements and achievements involving Writergrrls members. Members are invited to submit brief details, including any relevant links. Submissions will be compiled and summarized by a Membership section editor. Max 300 words.

Professional announcements might include:

  • A book or article published
  • A new job or promotion
  • A company launch involving the member
