They say there's no such thing as a free lunch.

Membership of Seattle Writergrrls has always been free—we don't charge a joining fee or dues. But keeping the organization going does cost money.

Writergrrls brings you many benefits

Think about what you have gained from your membership. Did you learn something from the e-mail list, find a job lead, hear about a freelance gig, connect with fellow writers, discover a great book, learn new skills, make friends?

Now there is an easy way to support Writergrrls from the comfort of your own computer —the Amazon Honor System.

Writergrrls is run entirely by volunteers

The value of the time they give is immense. But we also have basic expenses, most notably the cost of maintaining the Web site and e-mail lists—regular and digest—that are at the core of the organization. There are administrative expenses, and we do some outreach and marketing, such as our successful past participation in the Northwest Bookfest event.

Writergrrls has always relied on member support

A great deal has been achieved with minimal financial resources. In the past we have asked members for donations at meetings and events, and many expenses have been met from the pockets of volunteers involved in particular projects.

Help Writergrrls continue to grow

The Amazon Honor System gives you the opportunity to support Writergrrls NOW and help us continue to grow. We are suggesting a donation amount but you can give whatever works for you—from $5 to $50.

Your donation will help offset our ongoing expenses and improve the benefits we provide to members. As a member of Seattle Writergrrls you can have as much involvement in the activities and direction of the organization as you wish, both on the e-mail lists and at meetings.

So how much do we need?

We worked out the minimum amount it costs to keep Writergrrls going each year, then we added a little bit to help expand our activities, such as renting a covered area for the summer picnic or paying for food for the Holiday Party. Also, we have new members running the list, and this extra amount will keep them from having to worry about future fundraising for awhile. With these considerations, we came up with a suggested donation.

It's the price of lunch at a Thai restaurant or a CD on sale. If only 5 percent of our 1200 members donate the suggested amount we will reach our goal for the year.
