Join the Zine Team

The Zine is created by a group of volunteer writers and editors. Experienced people and those wanting to learn and develop new skills are equally welcome. You can be involved as much or as little as you like.

What Can I Do?

The team works in three editorial groups: Exploration, Opinion and Membership (the type of content in each group is described in the section on how to submit articles to the Zine). There are several jobs you can do, both within the groups and for the Zine as a whole. You can volunteer for one or more job and one or more group

Writer: Submits ideas for pieces; submits completed pieces; accepts assignments.

Editor: Copy-edits completed pieces; submits ideas for pieces.

Tagger: Inserts HTML tags into finished pieces using page templates.

Proofer: Proofreads pieces that have been edited and tagged, including testing hyperlinks.

Group Editor: Works in a small team (usually three people) leading one of the editorial groups. This includes:

• deciding the editorial content
• giving assignments to writers
• assessing submissions from writers
• ensuring the group's editorial process stays on track
• arranging and attending occasional meetings

How Do I Sign Up?

The Zine team has a community set up on Yahoo! Groups. This facilitates communication and information sharing between the team members. Once you have joined this group, you will be able to:

• set out the jobs you want to do in the Zine team database
• receive notices of Zine team meetings
• send and receive Zine team e-mail
• access folders and documents containing information about the Zine

This is a private group, so your membership has to be approved by the group moderator. She may ask for more information about you before approving your membership (just to make sure you are not a mischievous 13-year-old set to cause mayhem!).
