Snapshot: Janis Wildy
Where do you get your news?
From National Public Radio on KUOW, Eat the State, The Stranger, and
www.indymedia.org.
What’s your order in a coffee shop?
I love the Postum latte at B&O Espresso, but when having coffee, Vivace's on Broadway is
the best. As for tea, the smoky teahouse blend from the Blue Willow Cafe hits the spot
just about everyday.
If you knew you would not fail, what would you do?
Create my dream writers conference and invite my favorite modern authors. Nick Horby, Alex Garland,
Banana Yoshimoto, and Pagan Kennedy all on one panel—yeah baby!
What are you currently reading?
White Teeth, by Zadie Smith. Next up: The Onion Girl, by Charles Delint.
What is the most bizarre place you have visited?
Sturgis, South Dakota, during their annual motorcycle rally and races. I was just
traveling cross-country when my friend and I stumbled onto this amazing spectacle.
How did you learn about Writergrrls?
I met with Jenny Boe Hayes to talk about writing and she heartily recommended joining.
Which historical figure would you like to have dinner with?
Eleanor of Aquitaine, wife to both King of France, and King of England—mother to
Richard the Lionheart.
What was the first record you ever bought?
I think it was KC and the Sunshine band, although it could have been the Osmonds or
Bobby Sherman. Please believe my tastes have evolved!
What is on your mouse pad?
A tattoo-style rose and butterfly against a black background.
What is your favorite color?
I love silvery lilac and deep rose.
Janis Wildy is a zine editor,
novelist, aspiring doula, and amateur herbalist. She has a BA in Broadcast Journalism
from the UW and completed both the intro and advanced versions of the commercial fiction
tracks at the UW Extension College.
Her favorite past jobs have been working on films, making documentaries, and working as a
DJ at KCMU. She hopes these experiences will add color to her current writing project:
a novel set in Seattle during the WTO, chronicling the rise and fall of a radio DJ bent
on becoming, or at least dating, a rock star.
