Poem
cabbage head
By Katey Kuijper
when love was a dinner
you pushed me aside
voraciously consuming the main dish
four years of dinners
I sat alone waiting
for a little butter and salt
you opened me up and
peeled back fresh layers
knowing I was good for you
but too afraid to bite
I was left to the side
getting cold
and wilting
until
I was
no longer
my original shape
Katey is a self-described everything-artsy-artist, poet and native Northwesterner. She will
one day write children's books and learn to bend metal. She earns her living as a computer
geek.
