MembershipBulletin BoardIn the limelight 2002 is becoming a busy time in the world of stage and screen for Writergrrl Litsa Dremousis. She made her first debut contributing as a writer for Moviemaker Magazine, where she interviewed writer/director Sherman Alexie. This piece was run in the Winter 2001 issue, and now you can catch this piece online. Dremousis was also hired as publicist for two projects: the Greenstage Theatre's production of "A Touch of the Poet" by Eugene O'Neill, on stage in February and March; and the movie "Mrs. Baker", an "intelligent horror film" made in Seattle by Scotopia Pictures. Poetry praiseAward-winning poet Kat Lizee has done it again…and again. Her poem "Lexicons" won first place in the nationwide Ohio Poetry Association's Autumn Equinox Poetry competition and publication in their journal Common Threads. Another of her poems was chosen for honorary mention. Hard on the heels of that plaudit came more. "The Road to Seville" won third place in the National League of American Pen Women Northwest Ohio Branch Poetry Contest 2001. "The Birch Tree," received an honorable mention. Lizee's latest achievement is to have her poem "Baptism" chosen for publication in Pacific Review, an annual West Coast arts review published by the Department of English and Comparative Literature at San Diego State University. The 2002 edition, due for publication in April, will be taught in several English and Comparative Literature classes at SDSU this spring semester. Congratulations to Kat Lizee, who is a full-time writer of fiction and poetry. You can read some of her poems on her Web site. Calling local children's book authorsNicole Jones, author of the Writergrrls Zine style guide and a new Explorations section Editor, wants to hear from local authors who have new children's books coming out. That's because she is now the reviewer of that genre for The Seattle Press, which is distributed free throughout North Seattle. Nicole's column, which debuted in November, focuses on local writers. "I am looking for a wide range of genres, for emerging to teen readers, fiction or nonfiction, basically anything," she explained. If you have a children's book for review, contact Nicole at nickoleen@hotmail.com. Scholarship winnerSeattle Film Institute awarded a full scholarship to Netter Hansen to attend its Screenwriting I class. The scholarship was offered exclusively to members of Writergrrls, who were invited to submit a pitch for a screenplay. Netter's winning screenplay idea was: "A funny coming of age story about an unusual mother and daughter relationship. Emily has always wanted to be closer to her mother, Greta, and now that Greta has died, their relationship is better than ever." Writergrrls thanks SFI and particularly member Peggi Swann. Swann helped make the scholarship, as well as discounts on the Screenwriting I, and Documentary Production: Preproduction classes, available to members. If you are interested in SFI classes, visit their Web site or call (206) 568-4387.
