Mission Statement
Seattle Writergrrls encourages writers to thrive in their craft by
catalyzing interaction in a creative and informed community.
History and Vision
Seattle Writergrrls is a grassroots
effort. It evolved from a small group of women who met in October 1998
to discuss freelance writing opportunities for Web sites. A robust
dialogue ensued about issues related to writing for the high-tech
industry. A month later, our e-mail discussion list took root. In
January 1999, our first Web site made its debut. Since then, we have
formed a steering committee, re-designed our site, and organized
meetings and educational events. List membership has quickly grown to
more than 1000 members.
We encourage women to mentor one
another while honing their online writing and editing skills. Our
online zine, Uncapped, is on hitatus, as we
redesign our Web site. Our e-mail discussion list, meetings, and events
connect women and provide a venue for them to help each other develop
new skills, experience career growth, and try new approaches to what
and how they write.
Leadership
The Steering Committee is comprised of
volunteers who coordinate events and meetings, update the Web site and
zine, and establish list guidelines. We invite you to learn a little
more about this diverse group of volunteers through the links to their
bios provided below. Or you can read about the entire group here.
